Google has secured the rights to Froogle's UK domain name. Froogle.co.uk had been cyber-squatted by LWD Internet, an e-commerce solutions provider. The company registered the domain when Google launched Froogle.com, Google's shopping search engine.

According to SearchEngineJournal.com, when Google tried to register Froogle.co.uk, it was informed of LWD's ownership. Google contacted LWD twice and received no response. Instead, a 3rd party offered to sell the domain back to Google, and claimed that LWD offered him the domain at 10000 pounds.

Google claimed that LWD's ownership of Froogle's domain was "abusive registration". Nominet, UK's registry for .uk names agreed and awarded the rights of Froogle.co.uk to Google.

Thanks to SEJ for the heads up.
