IBM popularized the personal computer business in the 1980's. IBM fought Apple Computer for dominance and won. But now IBM has ended its PC run.

Announcements in New York and Beijing confirmed speculation that IBM sold its personal computer business to a Chinese based company called Lenovo. The company is partly owned by communist China. Is this a great day or a horrible day for capitalism ... you decide.

IBM has been key to the development of the PC industry around the world. Unfortunately for IBM ... HP, Dell and others have come to dominate Big Blue over the years. The advent of the Internet sucked away IBM's historical distribution dominance.

In published reports at Forbes.com John Wang, president of the Asian American Business Development Center in New York City said, "I think this is the kind of milestone that marks a new level of U.S.-China business and trade development. It is an inevitable trend between China and the United States. There will be more and more of this type of collaboration between the two countries."

Gartner analyst Martin Gilliland summed it up, "On paper, this goes a way to achieving what Lenovo and IBM are hoping to achieve. Now it's up to execution,"
